LGH Pulmonary nodule project
These instructions are for new studies going forward.
Criteria
1. Patient must be 35 years old or older to be included.
2. CT must NOT be ordered by an oncologist for active follow up of a known cancer or staging of a newly diagnosed cancer looking for metastasis. Look back 1 or 2 CTs for the ordering physician to make sure an oncologist is not actively following the patient. Even though the current CT is ordered by a PCP, ER, or Hospitalist for an acute symptom, the patient may still be actively followed by an oncologist for a malignancy and we do not want recommend follow up guidelines that may be different from their own established protocols.
For each case
1. Measure the largest nodule as an average of length and width and state so in your report (eg. largest nodules measures 5mm on averaging the length and width).
2. Follow the Fleischner Society guidelines for the largest nodule.
3. Include the words "Fleischner Society guidelines" in the impression.
